Sharing Hearts was founded in Chicago, Illinois by Christina Pedraza. At a young age, Christina experienced firsthand the effects of incarceration and what it does to families. Her father was imprisoned for a drug related offense. Christina’s family structure, finances, and residences were affected due to his arrest. Her father spent most of her childhood and all her adult life in prison. Because of that situation, Christina’s outlook on the prison system has changed. Today, Christina’s focus is to transform the lives of previously incarcerated individuals. She hopes that Sharing Hearts will not only act as a beacon of hope for both families and previously incarcerated individuals, but also assist in reducing the recidivism rate.
